Hugh is an Australian Ceramics Artist, based in New York City. He works with both traditional forms and new interpretations using stoneware clay and firing in a wood fired kiln in upstate New York.
His journey in studio ceramics started in 2002 during a university exchange program in Japan. He was accepted into a study abroad program at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka and studied under a great pottery artist, Inomata Sensei.
He has a passion for making utilitarian pieces with texture that help the user relate to what they are doing. Whether it is drinking water or enjoying a meal, the time spent doing this can be much more pleasurable and meaningful when using something that was handcrafted. This is true for most things in our life.
